Let’s partner to increase child immunization rates in our communities
Join us in sharing the importance of immunizations with our members! Our current immunizations campaign encourages parents to protect their children’s health by keeping up with immunizations. We are communicating this to members across multiple channels, including digital ads, school-distributed flyers, radio spots, social media and community events.
Providers can earn incentive dollars for achieving immunization rates as outlined in our Care Based Incentive program.
Resources to help you boost immunization rates at your clinic
- Our immunization resources page provides immunization schedules and best practices.
- Our tips on how to communicate with parents and guardians about vaccines and checkups to help increase vaccination rates across our communities.
Please share these resources with our members:
- Immunizations page: shares valuable resources including an infant wellness map and the recommended child immunization schedule.
- Checkups page: shares how checkups are a great time to catch up on vaccines.
- Vaccine flyer: available to print in English, Hmong and Spanish to share with members.
- Nurse Advice Line: registered nurses are available 24/7 to answer members’ questions about immunizations.
- Health Rewards program: opportunities for members to earn up to $250 in gift cards for completing routine care, including checkups and immunizations.
We appreciate your ongoing commitment to our members’ well-being.
Your guide to medical exemptions for pediatric patients
If your pediatric patient has a medical condition that prevents them from receiving the vaccines that they need to attend school, they will need an exemption.
Providers must use the California Immunization Registry Medical Exemption (CAIR-ME) website to issue new medical exemptions for school and childcare.
Medical exemptions must meet Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) criteria.
Steps to get medical exemptions
- The guardian creates an account in CAIR-ME and applies for an exemption. Once they apply, they will receive a medical exemption request number.
- The guardian must provide the medical exemption request number to the child’s doctor.
- California-licensed MDs and DOs register to issue and manage medical exemptions through the CAIR-ME website. From there, the doctor can search for the child’s medical exemption and give the guardian a printed or electronic copy of the exemption.
- Parents and guardians are not permitted to print out medical exemptions.
- The guardian must bring a copy of the medical exemption to the school or childcare facility.
For more information, read about exemptions on the California Department of Health’s webpage or contact [email protected].
