Telehealth Services
The Alliance is proud to support technology that helps members access medically necessary services when and where they need them. Telehealth services can be provided by Alliance-contracted primary care providers, physician assistants (PAs) and nurse practitioners (NPs) with their assigned Alliance members. Supervising primary care providers are required to oversee all telehealth cases submitted by PAs or NPs.
All participating providers must agree to follow Medi-Cal guidelines and utilize telehealth services exclusively for Alliance members without other health care coverage. For eligibility information and participation requirements, see Section 6 of the Alliance Provider Manual.
Alliance Telehealth Options
We offer two telehealth options for providers to utilize: eConsult and TeleSpecialty Care.
Alliance members may also use Rocket Doctor or Zócalo Health to speak to a doctor. Mood Health is available to Alliance members for behavioral health telehealth services.
The Alliance offers eConsult through AristaMD. eConsult services improve access to and quality of health services provided in rural and other medically underserved areas. Services allow primary care providers (PCPs) to consult online with specialists.
Services are provided through a user friendly, secure, HIPAA compliant platform. A PCP presents a brief scenario regarding an Alliance member’s symptom management or diagnosis. The PCP can add supporting test results, medical records and images. An eConsult specialist responds to the PCP request through the platform to provide guidance, reassurance about the care plan and next steps, usually within a few hours.
The Alliance’s TeleSpecialty Care (TSC) program is offered through TeleMed2U. TSC enables primary care providers (PCPs) to coordinate video consultations between specialists and patients through a secure online platform.
PCPs receive quick responses from TeleMed2U to schedule patient appointments. TeleSpecialty Care reduces the burden of travel and enhances member integration into their patient-centered medical home (PCMH). The program uses video conferencing to provide members with high-quality specialty visits in their PCP’s office. Members can also access TSC to connect with a specialist from the comfort of their own home.
TeleMed2U has a network of over 80 board-certified specialists in various medical specialties, including:
- Cardiology.
- Dermatology.
- Endocrinology.
- Gastroenterology.
- Infectious Disease/HIV Medicine.
- Neurology.
- Otolaryngology.

- Rheumatology.
How to Access TeleMed2U:
- When submitting a referral request via the Alliance Provider Portal, select “TeleMed2U.”
- TeleMed2U will contact your patient to coordinate and schedule all appointments.
- TeleMed2U sends clinical notes from the consult back to the referring provider, increasing continuity of care and expediting follow up.
The PCP bills the Alliance for Medi-Cal compensable transmission and facility services, and the Alliance pays TeleMed2U directly.
