What is the Alliance responsible for?
The Alliance is responsible for:
- Contracting with a network of providers to treat the mild to moderate behavioral health needs of our members.
- Provider support for inquiries and concerns, credentialing and training.
- Behavioral health authorizations and claims processing.
These services were previously managed by Carelon Behavioral Health (Carelon). The Alliance collaborated closely with Carelon to ensure a seamless transition and continued care for our members.
Note: A provider’s contractual relationship with Carelon is independent of the Alliance. Providers interested in contracting with the Alliance may begin the process at any time.
Alliance Medi-Cal members with serious behavioral health issues (such as substance use disorders, schizophrenia or eating disorders) will continue to be referred to their county’s behavioral health department for care.
Rates and incentives
The Alliance’s rates are the same as Carelon’s rates, but we do not pay based on fee schedule. We pay 100% Medicare rates, which are significantly higher than Medi-Cal rates.
- PhDs and MDs receive 100% of the Medicare rate.
- NPs and PAs receive 85% of the Medicare rate.
- Master’s level providers receive 75% of the Medicare rate.
- Bilingual visit add-on: $10.
- Provide visit in community setting: $25 per visit.
- Appointments for post-ED utilization within 14 days: $50 per visit.
- One-time payments:
- Complete Provider Satisfaction Survey: $100.
- Complete health equity training: $200.
- Bilingual annual bonus: $250.
- DHCS ACEs Aware training: $200 per attestation to DHCS.
- PCP coordination: $25.
- Member access incentive: The more Alliance members you see, the more you can earn per new member. This is an annualized calculation based on prior Carelon utilization.
