As of Jan. 1, 2025, the Whole Child Model (WCM) program includes San Benito and Mariposa counties, bringing enhanced, coordinated care to children and young adults with complex medical needs. This expansion strengthens our ability to support families in these communities by seamlessly integrating primary, specialty and supportive care under the Alliance.
About the Whole Child Model (WCM)
The Whole Child Model (WCM) is part of California Children’s Services (CCS), a statewide initiative that arranges and funds comprehensive care for children and young adults under 21 with certain serious health conditions. By combining Medi-Cal and CCS benefits, WCM helps families navigate a complex medical system, making it easier to access necessary treatments and improve health outcomes.
How the Alliance supports WCM families
Through the WCM program, the Alliance provides families with a range of supportive services designed to simplify and coordinate care. Alliance staff, including nurse case managers and social workers, guide families by:
- Navigating care options: Showing families how to access and pay for treatments and services.
- Medical guidance: Helping families understand their child’s medical condition and connecting them with the right specialists.
- Application assistance: Explaining the CCS application process and supporting families in managing appeals if care isn’t initially approved.
- Ongoing support: Resolving concerns about medical care and ensuring families have the resources they need for successful treatment.
Comprehensive services for better health outcomes
The WCM program in Mariposa, Merced, Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz counties provides extensive services, including:
- Medical and behavioral health treatment.
- Diagnostic services.
- Medical case management.
- Physical and occupational therapy.
