As of July 1, 2022, a new law in California increased the Medi-Cal asset limit for individuals age 65 and older or persons with disabilities. The asset limit significantly increased from just $2,000 for an individual or $3,000 for couples to $130,000 for individuals and $195,000 for couples. For each additional family member, the asset limit will increase by $65,000.
This increased asset limit allows more applicants to become eligible for Medi-Cal benefits and will allow beneficiaries to retain a greater amount of non-exempt assets and still be eligible for Medi-Cal.
