The California Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI) is offering a new funding opportunity to recruit and retain behavioral health practitioners to serve the Medi-Cal population.

Who is eligible for funding?

  • Federally qualified health centers (FQHCs).
  • Community mental health centers (CMHCs) as defined and certified by the California Department of Public Health.
  • Rural health clinics (RHCs).
  • Settings with the following payer mix:
    • Hospitals with 40% or higher Medicaid and/or uninsured population.
    • Rural hospitals with 30% or higher Medicaid and/or uninsured population.
    • Other behavioral health settings with 40% or higher Medicaid and/or uninsured population.

What can funding be used for?

There are funding opportunities to support areas including:

  • Recruitment and retention bonuses.
  • Training, licensing and certifications.
  • Supervision hours.
  • Backfill costs.
