Beginning May 1, 2022, the new Older Adult Expansion will give full scope Medi-Cal to adults 50 years of age or older, regardless of immigration status. Applicants will still have to meet all other Medi-Cal eligibility rules.
This expansion will change the level of coverage that this population will receive under Medi-Cal. Prior to May 1, 2022, adults age 50 years or older who did not meet immigration requirements were eligible for restricted scope Medi-Cal, which provided coverage for limited services. Full scope benefits will now be covered for this population as of May 1, 2022. Full scope Medi-Cal is comprehensive coverage that provides medical, dental, mental health, family planning, foot care, hearing aids and vision care (eyeglasses). Full scope Medi-Cal also covers alcohol and drug use treatment, medicine, medical supplies, doctor-ordered tests and more.
Starting May 1, 2022, current restricted scope Medi-Cal enrollees within the Alliance service areas will be enrolled with the Alliance. Members who enroll will receive a new member ID card and welcome packet explaining how to access services.
For further information on benefits provided by the Alliance, please refer to our member handbook.
