Course Description:
Local providers, Dr. Carmin Powell and Dr. Cristina Gamboa will present a 1 hour and 30 minute CME/CEU session on addressing systemic and structural racism in medicine through the lens of neonatal and maternal and child health. They will be identifying areas where racism affects care and will explore active allyship and accountability to promote health equity.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Identify the diversifying demographics of California and the Alliance service areas.2. Examine the impact of race/ethnicity and social determinants of health on maternal child healthcare outcomes.
- Demonstrate effective anti-racism and allyship in their clinical practice.
- Create strategies to overcome structural barriers and promote health equity.

This course meets the qualifications and is pending approval for 1 hour and 30 minutes of Continuing Education as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Santa Cruz County Behavioral Health (SCCBH) is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (#1000048) to sponsor continuing education for LMFTs, LCSWs, LEPs, and/or LPCCs.
