Pediatric Best Practices Webinar

The Alliance is hosting a Pediatric Best Practices Webinar in collaboration with Valley Children’s Medical Group – Olivewood Pediatrics. We are excited to have Carmela Sosa-Unguez, MD, FAAP, Pediatrician at Valley Children’s Medical Group, present information on best practices in pediatrics medicine.

Webinar topics

Topics will include:

  • Lead screening.
  • Child and adolescent well-care visits.
  • Childhood immunizations.
  • Fluoride application.
  • Screening for Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).

Alliance staff will present on coding best practices and important resource information.

Carmela Sosa-Unguez, MD, FAAP

About Carmela Sosa-Unguez, MD, FAAP

Dr. Sosa-Unguez was born and raised in Fresno, California. She joined Valley Children’s as a primary care pediatrician for children with medical complexity in April 2012. In addition to patient care, she serves as associate program director of the Valley Children’s Pediatric Residency Program and

director for the Guilds Center for Community Health, where she works with community partners to improve children’s health outside the hospital walls. She also serves as a national pillar co-lead for the American Academy of Pediatrics Community Pediatrics Training Initiative, which focuses on advocacy.

Dr. Sosa-Unguez has completed primary care psychiatry training with the University of California, Irvine/University of California, Davis, and is an accredited trainer in the American Association of Suicidology’s Recognizing and Responding to Suicide Risk in Primary Care. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and serves as an active member of the AAP California Chapter 1 Mental Health Access Subcommittee. Her passion for teaching and practicing patient and family-centered care has earned her several Valley Children’s recognition awards, including the Parent’s Choice Award (2016), Teacher of the Year (2017) and the Dowain Wright Patient Experience Award (2018).
