Free fentanyl test kits + recruiting CHWs

Free fentanyl test strip kits

According to the National Center for Drug Abuse Statistics, opioids kill more than 136 Americans every day. The Naloxone Distribution Project (NDP) is a DHCS program that focuses on reducing opioid overdose deaths through access to no-cost naloxone for eligible entities. In addition to providing naloxone, the NDP is now distributing free, all-in-one fentanyl test strip kits to eligible entities. The all-in-one kits help simplify the process of testing drugs for the presence of fentanyl.

By providing free fentanyl test strip kits, DHCS aims to:

  • Protect communities at risk of fentanyl exposure.
  • Prevent overdoses.

Eligible organizations

Eligible organizations include but are not limited to:

  • Schools.
  • Universities.
  • Tribal entities.
  • Substance use recovery facilities.
  • Federally qualified health centers.
  • Community clinics.

We’re recruiting Community Health Workers

The Alliance is actively recruiting community organizations to contract with the Alliance and provide the Community Health Worker (CHW) benefit for Medi-Cal members.

CHWs provide our members with:

  • Health education.
  • Health navigation.
  • Individual support or advocacy.
  • Screening and assessment that does not require a license and helps members connect with the appropriate services to improve their health.

Eligible health care organizations can apply for an Alliance grant and be awarded up to $65,000 in Medi-Cal Capacity Grant Program funding to recruit and hire CHWs. CHWs can receive reimbursement at up to 150% of Medi-Cal rates for services.

If your organization is interested in applying for CHW funding, learn more on our CHW page.
