What kinds of medical equipment are covered?
The Alliance covers medical supplies and equipment that are prescribed by a doctor. The Alliance does not cover comfort, convenience or luxury equipment, features and supplies.
Examples of covered medical equipment:
Hearing aids
The Alliance covers hearing aids if you are tested for hearing loss and have a prescription from your doctor. The Alliance may also cover hearing aid rentals, replacements and batteries for your first hearing aid.
Durable medical equipment (DME)
DME is medical equipment for in-home use that helps you perform daily activities and increases quality of living. The Alliance covers the purchase or rental of medical supplies, equipment and other services with a prescription from a doctor.
Orthotics and prostheses
The Alliance covers orthotic and prosthetic devices and services that are medically necessary and prescribed by your doctor, podiatrist or non-physician medical provider. This includes:
- Implanted hearing devices.
- Breast prosthesis/mastectomy bras.
- Compression burn garments.
- Prosthetics to restore function or replace a body part.
- Prosthetics to support a weakened or deformed body part.
Ostomy and urological supplies
The Alliance covers:
- Ostomy bags.
- Urinary catheters.
- Draining bags.
- Irrigation supplies and adhesives.
Medical supplies, equipment and appliances
The Alliance covers medical supplies that are prescribed by your doctor. Some medical supplies are covered through the Fee-For-Service Medi-Cal Rx and not the Alliance.
