Family Planning
Family planning services can help you plan how many children you might add to your family, and how much time between each child. These services are provided to members that are of childbearing age including pregnant and postpartum members. Family planning services include all methods of birth control approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). You have the right to get information about all of your options and choose the method that is best for you.
Family planning services are private and confidential. You have the right to receive these services without pressure or limits on your choice of birth control.
You can get family planning services from:
- Within the Alliance network: Doctors, nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, physician assistants and clinics.
- Outside of the Alliance network: Any family planning practitioner or clinic that takes Medi-Cal insurance. You do not need to get pre-approval from the Alliance.
Family planning services do not include the services you need after you become pregnant. However, the Alliance does offer coverage for pregnancy-related services, education and support for prenatal and postpartum care, such as our Healthy Moms and Healthy Babies program.
