Understanding covered benefits and services

alliance-icon-community

The Alliance covers most health care services provided by a primary care provider, doctors, hospitals and licensed allied health care providers. There are some services that are covered by Medi-Cal but not through the Alliance. These services are referred to as “carved out services” and include: dental, pharmacy, specialty mental health services and substance use disorder treatment services.

Prescription drugs are covered by Medi-Cal Rx. For more information, call 800-977-2273 (TTY: 800-977-2273 and press 5 or 711) or visit the Medi-Cal Rx website.

Dental services are provided by the Medi-Cal Dental Program. For more information, call 800-322-6384 (TTY: 800-735-2922 or 711) or visit the Medi-Cal Dental Program website or Smile California.

Specialty mental health services are covered by county mental health plans. To find all counties’ toll-free telephone numbers online, visit the County Mental Health Plan Information directory.

Substance use disorder treatment services are provided by counties. To find contact information for each county, visit the Substance Use Disorder County Access Lines directory page.

The Alliance also contracts with other companies to provide some covered benefits:

  • For information on vision services provided by the Alliance, call Vision Services Plan (VSP) at 800-977-2273 (TTY: 800-977-2273 and press 5 or 711).
  • IHSS prescription drugs are covered by MedImpact. MedImpact can be contacted at 800-788-2949.

If members have questions about benefits, please encourage them to contact our Member Services Department at 1-800-700-3874.
