Help patients access food resources during the federal shutdown
Many families across our region are feeling the impact of rising food costs. CalFresh benefits may be on hold due to the federal shutdown, which may delay when people receive their benefits. For updates, visit the California Department of Social Services website.
Providers play a vital role in helping patients access healthy food and other assistance that affect overall well-being. The Alliance offers several ways you can help connect patients to available resources.
What you can do
- Encourage continuity: Remind CalFresh participants to continue submitting all required forms and paperwork to prevent further delays once funding resumes.
- Refer members to the Alliance ECM: Eligible members with medical needs may qualify for meal delivery through the Alliance’s Enhanced Care Management (ECM) program.
- Share local supports: Promote WIC and local food banks. Patients can call 2-1-1 or text their ZIP code to 898211 to find food resources nearby.
- Direct patients to Alliance resources: Share our member article, CalFresh benefits are on hold, but you can still get healthy food for your family, which lists local food programs and tips for stretching a food budget.
Thank you for supporting the health and stability of our members and communities during this challenging time.
