Central California Alliance for Health names Cecil Newton Chief Information Officer

Scotts Valley, Calif., March 03, 2022—Central California Alliance for Health (the Alliance) is pleased to announce Cecil Newton as the Alliance’s Chief Information Officer (CIO), filling the position of Van Wong, who recently became Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Alliance. Newton joined the Alliance in March 2022 and brings more than 20 years of IT experience in health care and information security to the role.

Prior to joining the Alliance, he held the position of Director of Systems Development & Infrastructure at San Francisco Health Plan (SFHP), as well as Information Security Officer. Prior to his work with SFHP, Newton served as a consulting Chief Technology Officer/Chief Information Security Officer with Montclair Technology and Vice President of Technology Services with Charles Schwab. Newton is experienced in IT strategy and planning, technology and security leadership, disaster recovery, contract and vendor management, and leading and mentoring high-performing teams.

“Cecil’s broad experience, which includes Medi-Cal managed care, will support the Alliance’s performance in local innovation,” said Alliance CEO, Stephanie Sonnenshine. “His commitment to collaboration, improvement and accountability will serve the Alliance well as our Chief Information Officer.”

Newton holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from City College of New York’s School of Engineering at CUNY.  Newton is credentialed as a Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) from CISO Institute, UC Berkeley and as a Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) from ISACA, a global association for IT governance professionals.

Linda Gorman is the Communications Director at Central California Alliance for Health (the Alliance). She oversees the Alliance’s strategic communications plan across all channels and audiences, identifying opportunities to raise awareness about the Alliance and key health topics. Linda has been with the Alliance since 2019 and has over 20 years of marketing and communications experience in the not-for-profit, insurance, and health care sectors. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Communications and Leadership.
