CAHPS – Member Experience
The Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) is a program developed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) under the Department of Health and Human Services. The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) uses data from the CAHPS survey to evaluate member experience within Health Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS).
Health plans and health care organizations administer the CAHPS survey annually to assess members’ experiences with the health care system. The Alliance will partner with Press Ganey Associates L.L.C. to conduct the survey.
What does the survey measure?
The survey collects member feedback on various aspects of care, including:
- Ratings of the health plan, primary care provider and specialists.
- Overall health care experience.
- Experiences with access, coordination of care, communication and customer service.
The Alliance also includes three supplemental questions focused on a members’ experience with the cultural competence of the health care system.
Survey results are received in quarter four of the survey year and are analyzed by our plan in quarter one of the following year.
