Be careful when giving out personal information to solicitors!

If someone knocks on your door saying they are an Alliance employee and asks you to enroll in services, it’s important to be careful. Sometimes, these people don’t work with the Alliance. They might be scammers trying to get your personal information or money.

Sometimes, Alliance providers will come to your door to tell you about our programs. But they will never charge you for services or ask you for money. They will also never ask you to buy a gift card for Medi-Cal services.

How to stay safe

Here are steps you can take to avoid scams:

  • If someone says they’re with the Alliance, ask for their information. You can call the Alliance at 800-700-3874 to make sure the person you spoke with is working with the Alliance.
  • Never give your Medi-Cal ID number, date of birth or other personal information to people you don’t know.
  • Never pay for or buy gift cards for Medi-Cal services.

It also important to protect your information from “vishing.”

“Vishing” is a cybercrime that happens when someone tries to trick you into sharing your sensitive personal information over the phone.

If you are even a little bit suspicious, it is better to hang up than to give away your information to a scammer. Visit our website to learn more ways to protect yourself from vishing.

If you think you may have been a victim of Medi-Cal ID theft, or that you gave money or your personal information to the wrong person, please call 800-700-3874.
