The holiday season can be joyful yet demanding, often increasing stress for both providers and members. According to the American Psychological Association, 89% of U.S. adults report experiencing stress during the holidays. Similarly, the American Heart Association (AHA) found that 79% of adults overlook their own health needs during the holidays, prioritizing others instead.
As trusted partners in care, community providers play a vital role in promoting wellness — not only for those they serve but for themselves as well.
To help Alliance Members in their wellness journey, share these resources with members:
- 24/7 Nurse Advice Line for immediate health guidance.
- Behavioral Health services to support mental wellness.
- Free Health & Wellness programs such as support for living with chronic conditions, mothers and babies support, weight management and quitting tobacco.
- Annual check-ups as a proactive step in maintaining health.
- Care Management support for those with chronic conditions.
For other healthy habits for all, the AHA Study identified the top areas that were neglected during the holidays and recommended focusing on:
- Eating smart – “Eat reasonable portions and think about what colorful fruits and vegetables you can add to your plate versus foods to avoid.”
- Moving more – “Physical activity is one of the best ways to manage stress, so aim to take a short walk each day. Any amount of movement counts.”
- Sleeping well – “Quality sleep can influence your mood, eating habits, memory and more.”
And to help foster resilience, we encourage community partners and members to stay connected with friends and loved ones and to make time for activities that bring joy. Together, we can create a season centered on wellness, connection and mutual support.
