Health and Wellness
By creating healthy habits, you can lower health risks and prevent long-term health issues. The Alliance works with members diagnosed with diabetes, asthma and other chronic health conditions. We give members the tools to properly manage their condition(s).
Alliance staff will help refer you to health education classes and materials. Staff can also refer you to additional community resources and services within your area. If you would like to enroll in a program or have questions about services, please call the Alliance Health Education Line at 800-700-3874, ext. 5580. We offer language assistance services at no cost.
Healthy eating and physical activity can reduce the risk of obesity-related health problems. That’s why the Alliance provides scholarships for members to participate in the Wellness that Works (formerly known as Weight Watchers) program.
During program meetings, members will learn about healthy eating, staying active and creating health and wellness goals. Ask your primary care provider (PCP) if this program is right for you.
In the Healthy Breathing for Life Program, you and your child can learn new ways to manage asthma. You will also learn how to avoid asthma attacks and how to best use your asthma medicine. Classes are offered in individual and group settings.
If you or your child has asthma, talk to your PCP about getting an Asthma Action Plan (AAP). An Asthma Action Plan helps people learn how to manage their asthma and what to do in case of an asthma emergency.
Living with a chronic condition like diabetes, depression or high blood pressure can be hard. Join a Healthier Living Program (HLP) workshop and learn skills to better manage your health.
The Alliance HLP workshops are health and wellness sessions where members learn how to manage pain, fatigue, stress, anxiety and sleep loss. Members also learn about healthy eating, staying active, building relationships and improving quality of life.
Here’s what our members are saying about the HLP workshops:
- “It gave me the courage to get my life back on track.”
- “It helped me to learn how to take better care of myself.”
- “What I enjoyed about this workshop is learning I’m not alone.”
- “I liked having a place to come where others share the same questions.”
The Alliance offers the Live Better with Diabetes and Diabetes Prevention programs for all ages. Classes are offered in individual and group settings. You can learn tools to keep diabetes under control, like how to eat the right foods, be more active and lower stress.
To prevent or manage diabetes, enroll in a Live Better with Diabetes or Diabetes Prevention program today.
