Empowering families to fight childhood obesity

Community Icon

September is National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month and the Alliance is committed to helping community organizations and providers address this health concern. Childhood obesity puts children at risk for health issues like type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. We have resources to help Alliance members prevent and manage these risks.

The Alliance offers the Healthy Weight for Life (HWL) program, designed for children ages 2 to 18 who are Alliance members. HWL workshops focus on practical strategies parents can use to help their children make healthy lifestyle changes, eat better and stay active. By attending the workshops, Alliance members can earn up to $100 in Target gift cards and even be entered into a raffle to win a bike!

Our website offers Alliance-vetted self-management tools to provide valuable support in maintaining a healthy weight. These include:

MyPlatePlan
Members can get a personalized plan for healthy eating based on their child’s age, gender and physical activity.

BMI Percentile Calculator
Members can use the calculator to assess their child’s current weight.

Move Your Way tool
Members can explore ways to fit more activity into their and their child’s day.

Learn about other programs for members on our Health and Wellness page. If a member would like to enroll in a program or has questions about our services, please have them call the Alliance Health Education Line at 800-700-3874, ext. 5580.

Together, we can tackle childhood obesity and build healthy people and healthy communities.
